I had some issues with the controller. It failed me at crucial moments several times. I swapped out buttons, rotating both the D-pad and the A and B keys 180 degrees; everything worked fine. It looks like it's time to replace them with different ones, or change the controller.
Plenty of bars alternated with dry spells. In two games, I was able to carry the ball just fine after switching. Two or three missdrops took their toll.
